Right Key, Wrong Keyhole January 18 2005 |
I look out my window to find more snow. I'm really sick of this snow we have been getting. It seems like just when it all melts, it snows again and the process is repeated. Needless to say our adventure got off to a late start due to digging out the vehicles. We meet DSIA at the usual spot , Jump in his ride and head for the Worcester Area. Today will have nothing to do with Grafton or Worcester State. Todays journey is to see a hole in the side of a hill. The Clinton Train tunnel. Let me start off by saying it was REALLY cold this particular day. This will factor in later in the story. So we take a ride and scout a few future UE spots then its off to the tunnel. Matt Trakker talks about this train tunnel alot. For some reason I though I will not be impressed with it. I was wrong. Unlike the Providence RI tunnel. This one seemed to have a real 1900's feel to it. The way it was cut. |
Arctic explorer Erin. |
Look, It's the light at the end of the tunnel, Literally !! |
The Mike and Erin ghost are briefly seen on this trip. |
It really blew me away. It wasn't a conventional arch. The bottoms seemed to curve into each other toward the bottom. I think that was the first thing I noticed after I saw its mammoth height. Just standing out front, you could almost see the old steamer passing through, Then make a 180 turn and look out over the giant valley, and try to imagine the massive train bridge that was once there. It must have been amazing to enter this gothic looking tunnel only to exit out across a massive bridge traversing a giant canyon. I must admit, the cold was starting to get to me. I started thinking about the time in April I plan on coming back. Once we all lost feeling in our feet, we headed back to the car. As I sit in the car DSIA says' " it wont start" . The key wont turn to the START position. |
DOOM! It was so cold already. Erin gets on the phone and starts a rather heated conversation with AAA. They finally said they would send a tow truck. Erin forgot her AAA card so they were giving her trouble. Now they inform her, they can take 2 people and the car. Bah! I call my Friend Tbow. ( Who I salute for driving one hour to pick my sorry ass up ). We ended up sitting in the car for an hour. Oddly enough , I had alot of fun with those two in that hour. Now here is the kicker, Tbow was coming from 75 miles away. The tow truck was in the town we were broke down at. AND!!! We called the tow truck first Tbow got there first! Go Figure.? Thanks to D.S.I.A. for another killer time And check out his MOST EXCELLENT Essex Sanatorium website I love that site!!!!! |
