HOWARD'S HOME
1946-2000

A school for the feeble minded  that closed down in 2000. Howard's home was pretty much in tact.
At first you can sense the overwhelming feeling of loss, but then after a while, it passes.

There were tons of patient files, medical equipment, underwear, and other miscellaneous belongings that must have meant a lot to
someone locked in  here away from everyone that they love.  Most of the "guests" were dropped off as children who
weren't wanted anymore sometimes cuz they were slow - at that time mental deficiencies were
classified in three levels - idiots, morons, and imbiciles - sound familiar??

This school was a former training camp for WWII soldiers following a detention center for Italian and German POW's.
Subsequent to the war, in an effort to improve the quality of care for the State's mentally ill, the campus was turned
into a state school.  [see opacity.us].  The campus is comprised of 13 L-shaped buildings, complete with a morgue.
The school was underfunded which led to a series of lawsuits, ultimately closing down in 2002.

Your standard asylum-blue  walls with decades of peeling paint dripping off

Dorm style rooms

These rooms had paintings at either end

This room was set up like a ship that used the windows as different decks.
Despite the lovely artwork, I did not feel like I was on a ship

This was a bathroom, there were some  doublesided mirrors in the bathrooms.
The bathrooms were equipped with detailed instructions on how to wash
your hands.  Right down to turning off the faucet when done.

In the tunnels...
